The Blue Planet EVOLUTION has begun…. L: 9’11x34”x4.5” ‘Fish Bone’; R: 9’9x31”x4.5” ‘Namotu’

Welcome the 2024 EVOLUTION line of high performance surf and cruiser Stand-up Paddleboards, by innovative shaper, avid waterman, and proprietor of Blue Planet Surf, Robert Stehlik. Each board features one of two original graphic compositions by KAIROU Waterman owner & lead designer Mark Mauikanehoalani Lovell, as well as a fresh take on the classic “Piranhasaurus Rex” Blue Planet logo.

Your next favorite board is waiting at Blue Planet Surf in Honolulu & Hale’iwa.

The Blue Planet Surf S.M.A.R.T. Carbon EVOLUTION line is a progressive, cutting-edge, no-compromise set of high performance surf and cruiser SUP models.

Recommended for experienced, intermediate and advanced SUP surfers, these board seamlessly blend smooth takeoffs with loose carving on the wave face.  The rocker and bottom outlines are fast, efficient, and love to carve rail-to-rail.  Each board’s hard edges are sharp and thin in the tail for solid grab in the turns. The deck is flat in the standing area for a solid stability, and a comfortable stance.

Blue Planet’s new S.M.A.R.T. (Sandwich Molded Active Response Technology) Carbon construction uses a proprietary carbon layup to achieve strength and rigidity, without sacrificing the board’s naturally responsive and snappy flex - all while maintaining a very light overall weight.  The featherweight EPS core is fully sandwich-wrapped with high density foam, resulting in excellent strength-to-weight ratios.

The revitalized logo: Blue Planet Pahupahu - a blend of Hawaiian motifs, and a commitment to care for the world’s oceans.

Each board in Blue Planet’s EVOLUTION series features an original composition grounded in Robert’s and Mark’s shared appreciation for surfing history, stand-up paddling, Hawaiian culture, Polynesia and Pasifika, as well as places which have left lasting and enduring impressions with Robert. Two locations in particular hold special memories, and continue to inspire his stoke: Ho’okipa on the Hawaiian island of Maui, and Whāingaroa - also known as Raglan - of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

The “Ho’okipa” graphic is featured on the new “Fish Bone” & “Big Fish Bone” by Blue Planet Surf.

Few waves in the world hold as much esteem from surfers, windsurfers, SUPers, and foil riders alike as Ho'okipa. Located just past the quiet town of Paia on Maui's north shore, at mile marker 8.8 on Highway 36, Ho'okipa - along with adjacent breaks, Sprecks and Kanaha - has earned generaltional acclaim for its exhilarating waves. Her four breaks - Pavillions, Middles, Point, and Lanes - offer intimidating challenges and incredible rides with every Winter season. Unyielding volcanic reefs and driving winds mean Ho'okipa often faces winds exceeding 25mph, and carries swells as large as 20+ feet.

The Ho'okipa EVOLUTION Stand-up Paddleboard depicts the island of Maui as viewed from the North. Two major triangle compositions represent the island's two major geologic features; the larger triangle motif represents the greater of Maui's two volcanos: Haleakala; the smaller represents Mauna Kahālāwai - or the West Maui mountains.

Low in the sky hangs an upward facing mahina hoaka - or crescent moon - one of many symbols indicative of Maui's ancient Hawaiian kingdom. Shining brightly above this scene is the constellation Manaiakalani, or Scorpius. According to tradition, this arrangement of stars refers to the prized fish hook of shape-shifting Hawaiian demi-god Maui (the island's namesake), and provides celestial navigators their general heading for safe over-water passage from Hawai'i to Tahiti, Borabora, and the rest of the South Pacific.

Each size of Blue Planet’s EVOLUTION high performance surf SUP range features Mark Mauikanehoalani Lovell’s “Whaingaroa” graphic, finished in either teal, blue, or red.

To the northwest of majestic Mt. Karioi in the Waikato region of Aotearoa (New Zealand), flanked by the rugged black sands of Ngarunui beach, lies Whāingaroa - meaning "the long pursuit". According to tradition, the name famously recalls a historic search for safe harbor by Tainui Waka - a great ocean-crossing canoe that ferried the first of Aotearoa's human settlers. By the latter half of the 18th Century, the Ngāti Māhanga iwi established permanent settlement for their families and their descendants, along this scenic and savage stretch of Te Ika-a-Māui's (New Zealand's North island's) West coast.

The Whāingaroa EVOLUTION Stand-up Paddleboard depicts the historic arrival of ocean-going waka (canoes) framed by representations of wind, rain and tide. A bold Hei Tiki motif acknowledges the rich ancestral significance of Waikato, Aotearoa; its land, its waters, and their history. A bird motif at the nose recalls Manu Bay, the most famous of all of Raglan's world-class surf breaks. Bold lines throughout honors the traditional motifs of Tā Moko - the unique and unmistakable Maori tattoo culture - as well as the proud Tino Rangatiratanga flag. These graphics for Blue Planet's Whāingaroa EVOLUTION Stand-up Paddleboard proudly honors the waves, the beaches and the vibrant community of Raglan, the rich history of Whāingaroa, as well as the Maori and their unique culture.
